“We have a portable laboratory,” Horodyskyj says.  “Sometimes we carry loads of fifty or sixty pounds up and down the mountain.”   Horodyskyj wants to know how black carbon pollution (commonly known as soot) affects the albedo, or reflectivity, of snow.
