Solar Eclipse – July 3, 2019

We’re down in Montevideo, Uruguay at the moment and our visit overlapped with a solar eclipse. In Montevideo, it was a partial eclipse (95%) and the maximum coverage occurred right around sunset. Did you know that during a solar eclipse, the Moon’s shadow crosses Earth’s surface at speeds exceeding 1000 mph! Despite it being cloudy, we could tell an eclipse was happening. The colors of the sky got really muted. Then, as the maximum passed, the beautiful colors of the sunset started to come back in a vivid red!
